Assessing your seed and site before embarking on a project will ensure that you know what outcomes to expect.  For example knowing:

Juvenile plants medic grass and chenopod 4 small

  1. How much of your seed is viable allows you to predict germination outcomes and allows you to determine whether other factors may be impacting your revegetation outcomes.
  2. What native seed is in your soil already healps you to determine the quanitites of seed you will need to add to your site to achieve the cover you require.
  3. What weed seed is in your soil allows you to determine the types of weed mamagement programs may be required moving forward for your project.
  4. What soil chemistry issues are in your soil, these may impede seed germination and plant growth

Knowing the viability of your seed will help you to determine the germination outcomes to expect on your revegetation site or in your nursery.

We provide:

  • Viability counts
  • Germination trials

Soil testing

Understanding your soil before embarking on a project will allow you to plan for any potential issues that could arise in the form of complicated soil chemistry (heavy metals, salinity and sodicity), dust production etc.  We offer soil sampling and testing services to support project outcomes.

Seedbank testing

Seedbank tests provide insight into your site, including: its ability to recover after disturbance, patterns of expected growth (e.g. diversity and density of plant species), the density of native species and your weed profile.  Often, native seedbanks are depleted following disturbance and require bolstering by sowing a suitable suite of locally native species.

A Successional Approach

Our unique approach to revegetation involves a ‘ground up’ methodology, which floods a site with seeds of native colonising species. The use of colonising species provides rapid site stabilisation and initiates the process of recovery to build ecosystem function. These species add organic carbon to the soil, attract invertebrates, deposit seed, compete with weeds and provide cover. Colonising species in the arid zone can reproduce within 6–8 weeks of rainfall, bolstering the seedbank. These attributes provide a great catalyst for building ecosystems in the arid zone.
