Assessing your seed and site before embarking on a project will ensure that you know what outcomes to expect. For example knowing:
- How much of your seed is viable allows you to predict germination outcomes and allows you to determine whether other factors may be impacting your revegetation outcomes.
- What native seed is in your soil already healps you to determine the quanitites of seed you will need to add to your site to achieve the cover you require.
- What weed seed is in your soil allows you to determine the types of weed mamagement programs may be required moving forward for your project.
- What soil chemistry issues are in your soil, these may impede seed germination and plant growth
Knowing the viability of your seed will help you to determine the germination outcomes to expect on your revegetation site or in your nursery.
- Viability counts
- Germination trials
Understanding your soil before embarking on a project will allow you to plan for any potential issues that could arise in the form of complicated soil chemistry (heavy metals, salinity and sodicity), dust production etc. We offer soil sampling and testing services to support project outcomes.
Seedbank tests provide insight into your site, including: its ability to recover after disturbance, patterns of expected growth (e.g. diversity and density of plant species), the density of native species and your weed profile. Often, native seedbanks are depleted following disturbance and require bolstering by sowing a suitable suite of locally native species.
