Ecological Research

Succession Ecology’s Research and Development (R&D) Department merges scientific knowledge with practical innovation to tackle complex ecological challenges. For our clients we investigate the optimal methods for site stabilisation, erosion control and restoration outcomes, tailored to project specific requirements and client needs. We are experienced in measuring and analysing abiotic conditions such as soil temperature, soil moisture, dust deposition, to holistically assess site conditions. By collecting and rigorously analysing real-world data, we provide evidence-based recommendations and ensure the viability and effectiveness of solutions for our clients.

Native Seed Farming

Succession Ecology is researching the large-scale farming of native species to produce seed. Our seed production aims at increasing the amount, quality and reliability of native seed available for restoration and development projects. While the main aim is the supply of high-quality native seed to our clients, our seed farm is a research project analysing the variables affecting healthy plants and therefore effective seed production and finding innovative solutions to successfully growing, and harvesting, unusual species.

Monitoring and Species Analysis

We develop species-specific survey plans, often in discussion with governmental authorities, to facilitate effective and practical surveys for species, specifically those listed under the EPBC Act. Amongst other species, we have developed survey methodologies for Western Grasswren, Southern Whiteface, Grey-headed Flying Foxes, Pygmy Blue-Tongue Lizards and EPBC-listed flora. Our team’s expertise in species ecology and statistical analysis ensures rigorous data collection and suitable analysis tailored to each project’s needs.
